translate tikz calendar names to persian?

I see the quastion How to translate tikz calendar names? and I try to make farsi calendar wti this code:

I have a problem with hyperref, longtable, appendix and babel (spanish) all together. TeX does not compile, with the following error:

Remarks:

  1. Removing hyperref solves the problem (but also removes hyperlinks, of course).

  2. Using chapter*{Longtable example} instead of chapter{Longtable example} also compiles with no errors.

  3. Changing babel to english also works.

  4. The most curious thing: it was working before I updated my machine! Now, I installed latest version, i.e MiKTeX 2.9 (previously, I had v2.8) and updated all packages and the problem appeared.

I would appreciate any solution, I think this is a new error because of two things: firstly, I couldn’t find anything similar in Google and secondly, it was working with previous versions of the packages and/or MiKTeX.

Extra info: OS Windows 7 x64bits, MiKTeX 2.9, all packages are updated to the latest versions. Let me know if you need more information.

Babel Package Installation Problems

At an earlier time babel package is functioning normally. But now, when compiling tex files, MikTeX asked to install the babel package, even after it’s installed again and again.

The required file
texlatexbabel-englishenglish.ldf
is missing. It is a part of the following package:
babel-english

I use TeXnicCenter editor.

The words ‘izoliran’ and ‘kostur’ in the MWE

For what it’s worth, I’m using a recently updated TexLive installation, and what seems to be the latest version of Babel (the documentation is version 3.9l).
Is this a real problem with the hyphenation patterns for this particular language, or is something else going on?

As for the solution, almost anything would be better than the English patterns that seem to be used now. Is there a way to use [croatian]{babel} with the hyphenation patterns of another language? Serbian, for example, would be close to perfect.

Edit: what I said about English patterns being used is definitively wrong, so these syllabifications are what they are ‘by design’.

qtree and babel – escaping character no caught

I started using the package qtree to draw (simple) trees with LaTeX
This package uses the ! to escape some commands/macros.

I tried framing part of the tree, copy/pasting the example in the documentation, but because of babel, loaded with french option, the ! is not caught and interpreted as a new leaf.

How to install language modules for the glossaries package

I’ve updated to the latest version (v 4.12) of the glossaries package on a miktex installation under windows. Now I get two warnings from the glossaries package:

Package glossaries Warning: No language module detected for ‘ngerman’.
(glossaries) Language modules need to be installed separately.
(glossaries) Please check on CTAN for a bundle called
(glossaries) `glossaries-german’ or similar.

I didn’t find these language packages in the miktex package manager so I tried to install them manually. I’ve created two folders within the miktex installation dir Program Files (x86)MiKTeX 2.9texlatex called glossaries-english and glossaries-german and put the *.dtx and *.ins files of the appropriate languages into these folders. After that I refreshed the FNDB and updated the formats under the miktex options on the General tab.

However, the warnings are still there. Any further ideas what to do?

Greek Text (babel) and English Code Text (listings): Problem

I want to add code in english (“courier new” font) to my latex document but I get some difficulties.

unwanted vertical spacing in supertabular with babel

I have a question regarding supertabular and babel. Whenever I’m using different language specifications inside a cell, there is a slight vertical space, which is not there when there is no language specification. I imagine something must be missing somewhere, but I can’t figure out where.

Supertabular is needed because the document I’m working on is about 30 pages long. Default language is French, but I have to include other languages in the cells.

When there is no language specification, the problem doesn’t appear. I’ve put some exclamation points to show that the French spacing is effective, both as default and when specified (which is all but normal), to show that babel is working correctly at least for that.

How to workaround conflict between greek and titlecaps?

I need to load greek with babel to support Greek text, but I am also using titlecaps to capitalise certain heading text.

Unfortunately, it seems this combination is not compatible but I’m having trouble identifying the specific cause and figuring out a workaround.

What is the best way to adapt this code so that it works properly?

In the example above, commenting out Addlcwords{of} gets the code to compile. However, in my real example, this just results in a different error later in the code, and so on. So I’m pretty sure there is something systematic I’m doing wrong here. What is it?

Adding a comma after “et al.” in citations doesn't work for a different language “et al.”

In an assignment, I am required to have citations formatted in the following manner:

  • in the authoryear style
  • with a comma after the andothers-string (normally “et al.”)
  • with “et al.” translated to “ym.” (Finnish)

I know how this way to add the comma: renewcommand*{nameyeardelim}{addcommaaddspace}. Also I know a way to define the bibliography string to be translated into Finnish: DefineBibliographyStrings{finnish}{andothers={ym.}}. Both of these methods work fine separately, but when used simultaneously, the comma just won’t appear. How to translate the “et al.” and add a comma after it?

I didn’t find a way to do this using Biber. It is my preferred bibliography-handling method, and I wouldn’t like to learn a new one just to solve this little problem.

Hyphenation doesn't work and lines overflow with French Babel (Lyx)

I’m using texlive-babel-french (on Fedora) with Lyx, and text overflows instead of having clear cuts because of hyphenation. When I change language from French to English in Document > Preferences > Language, hyphenation works correctly, but LaTeX generated text (like Abstract) is not in French anymore, so I can’t use the english package.

hyphenation not working with “programmed” text

I am writing a thesis using my university’s documentclass. For this class, I can define a text as acknowledgement in the preamble which is automatically placed within the standard format.

These are my acknowledgements (agradecimentos in portuguese):

And this is the output:

This is quite fine. The only issue is the hyphenation on the second paragraph. The correct hyphenation would be ins-pi-ra-ram.

So, to correct that, I defined hyphenation{ins-pi-ra-ram} (before the acknowledgement). It didn’t change anything. It’s worth mentioning I’ve used hyphenation elsewhere in my thesis (in my own text) and it worked just fine.

Do I need to define the hyphenation inside the documentclass? Am I doing something wrong in hyphenation?

I’d love to give a MWE, but since this depends on my custom documentclass, I’m not sure how I’d do that.

Conflict with limit , font, babel

I have the following code

I found that removing usepackage[spanish]{babel} the problem is solved, but I need to write in spanish and I like the font. are there some code like usetikzlibrary{babel} which allows to use tikz and spanish together (usetikzlibrary{babel} allows to use <-> in draws with spanish babel)


Beamer with ragged2e and babel results in “command selectfont has changed” warning

I am preparing a presentation in beamer and trying to get rid of warnings – but there is one that I cannot remove. In the MWE below there’s empty beamer document with babel in Polish and ragged2e packages loaded. The resulting log gives Command selectfont has changed. It is not an error but just a warning, nevertheless I guess that it may mean that this conjunction is incompatible in some way. Changing babel from polish to e.g. english causes the warning to disappear.

I didn’t manage to find a reason for this behavior in other answers, but maybe someone here would determine its cause. I’m using MiKTeX 64-bit + TeXstudio on Win 8.1.

I am working with datenumber package with spanish option, usepackage[spanish]{datenumber} and I want to define a command similar to datemonthname, but each month with the first 3 letters, I mean

enero=ene,
febrero=feb,
marzo=mar,
mayo=may,

etc.

How to make a custom crefformat dependent on language chosen with babel?

For my custom class I use the package and define new custom reference styles:

crefformat{figure}{Meine tolle Abbildung ~#2#1#3}

Is there a way to make this command consider the language chosen with ? Like:

crefformat[ngerman]{figure}{meine tolle Abbildung ~#2#1#3}
crefformat[english]{figure}{my fancy figure ~#2#1#3}

So I get the correct output for what I’ve chosen loading :

usepackage[english]{babel}

The manual states, that it is no problem with something like:

crefformat{equation}{#2cref@equation@name~(#1)#3}

But I can’t see how to apply that to my case.


Edit:

I found a cumbersome solution by myself, but I’d prefer one which wouldn’t require to load all languages with babel (though I don’t know if it’s necessarily a bad thing, I’d just guess its overkill).

Using pdfLaTeX 3.1415926-2.5-1.40.14 (TeX Live 2013/Debian) with different versions of biblatex+biber+oscola, including the latest available, I get several errors when I include babel[italian] alongside with oscola.

When I include babel, I get Bibliography string ‘eucase’ undefined(biblatex) at entry ‘VanGendenLoos’ on input line 39. In the output, in the footnote, the first word Case becomes eucase.


Here I tried to use the bibliography file oscola-examples.bib provided with the package.
